The obverse depicts Liberty holding a staff and olive branch as she walks from the sun. Above her is inscribed the word "LIBERTY". The Liberty design is so well respected today that the US Mint chose the same design when it commissioned the modern American Eagle coin in 1986.
The reverse depicts a bald eagle flying across the sun. In an arc above the eagle are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" AND "TWENTY DOLLARS".
